Suggestions needed - 08 Ultra TP on FLTRSEI2
« on: April 28, 2010, 10:06:21 AM »

Looking for suggestions, I recently purchased a TP from a FLHTCUSE4 and was trying to install on the stock rack on my 2001 FLTRSEI2 and noticed the mounting holes do not align.  It seems the front holes of the TP are on 7" centers and the rear holes are on 6 1/2 centers.  I  would like to keep the stock detachable because of the side covers used (I think this is a great accent to these bikes).  I am thinking that the best thing to do is to drill 4 mounting holes in the rack...............

Any suggestions or comments would be welcomed.

Thanks

Thoughts:

The mounting system has changed.

It does not seem that drilling four extra holes will  hurt the tour pack and that way you can make it line up just as you want.

Have you checked at the dealer about a kit to make it adapt?

Actually, I was gonna drill the holes in the detachable TP rack I got of ebay.  Then that way I will have the chopped and full size TP's mounted.

Or buy a sheet of tin / aluminum and a couple of nuts / washers / bolts and cut to fit and drill on the sheet. that way you only drill on a sheet of goods not the tp or rack.

Will be an interesting project.  Not sure if there is sufficient surface area front to back on the HD detachable tour pak rack to accommodate the four-hole pattern of the '09 tour pak to flat mount it on the rack.  The detachable rack for pre-09 bikes introduced in '04 uses a chrome U-tube between the tour pak and rack that you wouldn't use by flat mounting the tour pak on the rack.  Not sure about how tight the clearance will be for you to open the saddlebag lids with the lowered tour pak on the rack without the additional space created by the U-tube.

Good luck with your project.
