Going to Utah
« on: April 24, 2010, 03:23:52 PM »

Hey Guys and Gals

We'll be heading west for a vacation out in Utah for 10 days ...   We're packing the bike and having it shipped along with 10 other bikes which are going too.  The bikes will be waiting just outside the airport in Grand Junction where we'll be landing.

Just wondering if anyone has any Garmin (Zumo 550) maps and or waypoints they'd be willing to share.  We plan to ride most of the popular destinations like Moab, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Million Dollar Hwy and plenty of other awsome stops.

Any other tips or suggestions regarding great places to stop would be greatly appreciated.

EagleGlider, I have been thru Utah twice and If you stay on the scenic non freeway roads you will love it. We went from 100+ to rain and hail near Blanding Utah in the same afternoon, but that is what makes it fun. Also, on the smaller scenic roads when you get close to small town drop your speed. There will usually be a radar unit just inside the reduced speed zone. I never got a ticket, but a lot of people who passed me were being pulled over. Have a great trip. CAHDBIKER

Do a youtube search for the Moki Dugway.  We're heading there in a but under 3 weeks, riding from Tennessee.

Those would be my top picks and in that order, might also stop and Mesa Verde in Colorado on your way to the million dollar hwy. In Moab if you have the time go to the ranger station and sign up for the Fiery Furnace tour, it's great, but thy have a limit per day, so you need to usually sign up the day before. Don't let the name fool you, it's probably the coolest temps in Moab, in between large sandstone formations.
