2006 FLHTCUSE
« on: May 10, 2010, 10:15:09 AM »

Need some guidance here guys.  My brother is looking at a 2006  Ultra Screamin Eagle .  The bike is the Autum Haze  and black with the orange stripes.  The bike has 48000 miles on it,  extremely good looking shape.  One owner, and the HD dealer  is asking 20,995 for it.  I feel that this is a good price and I am going to get him to call the VIN up and see what all has been done to the bike.  I would like to know if this seems to be a good price and what issues has the 2006 models had with the 103.  Also 48000 miles,  kinda not sure if this is to many miles.  I know that the average rider is going to put 12 to 15000 miles a year on a bike and yep this bike is 4 years old, so that makes sense with 48000 miles.  Just thought I would throw a few questions out there and see what you guys think of the 2006 FLHTCUSE bike and what issues this bike is noted for if any.  Like I said the bike looks like a new one.  Any other Ideas that you can think of that I should ask HD about the bike or anything that I might ask them or have them look up for me to see what this bike is really about.  all HELP appreciated.

Love my 06 SECU Black and Candy Crimson.  Its a keeper.  Be mindful of the cam chain tensioner with that many miles.  HD has a new version (newer than 06) which is a hydraulic tensioner and seems to extend the life of the tensioner pads which were problematic with the older design.  It's an alternative to the gear drive conversion favored by many, and costs less.  I'd make sure to get the tensioner pads at least checked out as their failure can cost you the engine.  Nice bike in the pic's with a few extra's.

Great bikes. The link above is one on ebay with less than 11k on it for less money. Looks nice if your interested. No it's not mine, wish it was though.

Good luck he'll enjoy it.

I have this exact bike and purchased it last October from a dealer. It already had pipes, tuner, air cleaner, 6 speed trans and probably 1k in various other chrome upgrades. It had 21k miles on it and I picked it up for a little less than what they're asking for the one you are looking at. If it were me I'd offer them $19,500~19,900. Just be sure to verify all the accessories work on the bike.

My 06 has 40K and those that know me will tell that it is overly well maintained, and if someone offered me 20k it would be sold. I believe that is a little high a price.

I think the bike has too many miles for that price. Also, I don't think that "average" riders put on 12k annually. Average is probably less than half. Anyway, I'd ask if you could talk to the previous owner to better understand how the bike was used.

Ride safely,

That seems high to me as well with those miles.  Dealers (and us owners I guess) often struggle to sell these bikes.  Depending upon the buyer, they may look at a brand new Ultra, zero miles and a two year warranty with the latest of everything including the frame.  For someone that wants a CVO, they know there is a premium to it because of all of the add ons.  Your dealer may rot on that bike at that price with those miles.  Used bikes are selling at the dealerships right now because you can get into one and out the door for less than new.  Spending on discretionary items remains thin.  At this price range, they are competing against new.  Make a dumb offer... all they can say is no.  That bike WILL NOT be gone tommorrow.

Thanx Guys for the feedback.  I rode over to Trussville the last Tuesday and tried this bike out.  Ran OK,  but the oil pressure would only run up  to about 30 PSI.  and at Idle the needle feel to 0.  And there was a few drops of oil on the ground where I parked it.  Looked underneath and oil was all over the oil cooler.  I backed away from this bike.  Told my brother to let it go.  To many miles, to much money.  Thanx for all the feedback guys.  I appreciate it.

Found out I have to tighten the oil filter more than I used to or oil will seep. Also if you don't get the oil cleaned up good when you change the filter some gets under that chrome cover. Used to find a small drip at the bottom of the oil cooler cover. No problem any more.

The radio on my 2006 crapped out twice, I'd also get a compression test done just to make sure everything is OK inside as well.

I agree with the rest and think the $$$ is a little high.

Aside from those two issues, my bike has about the same amount of miles on it and still runs great.

The oil that you see could be from a messy oil change... residual stuff accumulates under the oil cooler and leaks forever unless it's cleaned.

I think you are right, I bought an 06Last November for $16,000 with a one year full extended warranty, new tires and a hopped up motor and I love it.

Not sure where the market is for the 2006 SEUC's but my guess (somewhat educated) would be that guys that bought last year did get some good deals.

If the bikes are getting like cars are, prices have been firming up considerably since the first of the year, which if you are selling is a good thing, buying may be another matter.

I would think that with that many miles you could make an offer and save a bit from the asking price or find another with lower miles for around that $21-22k number.
