Trouble Code P1656
« on: May 16, 2010, 09:55:19 PM »

Need help!  Just finished a ride (150 miles) and the engine light came on coming down my street.  Pulled the codes and got P1656.
Can anyone tell me what this code is and where can I find a complete list of these codes???

           Thanks,

Found this by googling Harley OBD code P1656:

Quote
DTC: P1656
FAULT CONDITION: ACR solenoid high
PRIORITY ORDER: 95
SOLUTION: 6.26 DTC P1655,P1656

http://www.hdtalking.com/diagnostics_and_fuel_injection_related/26845-2010_dtc_codes.html

I'm no tech... but it sounds like the ACR(s) may be bad or otherwise grounded

The Electrical Diagnostic Manual for your bike, availalble from your friendly dealer, is the definitive reference.  It has all the codes as well as the actual diagnostic procedures for each code, plus full wiring diagrams and lots of other good information.  I highly recommend it, even for those who have no intention of working on their bikes.

It's never a bad idea to have a manual.  But if it's just the codes and a little diagnostic information one is after and there's really no intention to ever actually do more than oil changes yourself there is another option.  Might even be easier and more fun.

Get one of the plug in data readers.  Daytona offer's the Twin Tec units and even Harley itself is marketing a piece now.  Plug it in to the data port and read the codes directly.  Potentially much more information than you'll get through a dash display.  You can even clear codes if their simply historic.

Beyond the ease of use and potential information gain you'll actually know something specific to the bike before calling the dealer.  Not that dealer would ever blow smoke up your ass on a diagnostic issue.  But, hey, it's an excuse to buy a tool.....

Thanks for the replies,  I have cleared the code and ran the bike and it returned, That was yesterday.  Today I cleared the code ran the bike the same route as the day before and no code today.
Dealer  says it's a fluke, don't worry about it till it comes back,  leave it active and bring  the bike in on a trailer for them to look at.

In my experience, it isn't a "fluke" when you clear a code and it returns the next time you run the engine.  It might be an intermittent fault, since it didn't return a third time (yet), but I wouldn't blow it off as a fluke.  This stuff rarely fixes itself.
