Gauge indicator lights
« on: May 18, 2010, 06:21:33 AM »

Is there any way to get rid of the white stuff covering the indicator lights in the gauges? At night I believe they would be fine, but during the day and in sunshine you can't see if they are lit.

You mean to tell me, I'm the only person here that is bothered by this? With all the expertice on this forum, no one has tried to remove that stuff to be able to see the indicator lights better?

Do you mean on the 'low fuel", "fuel injection" lights? Like the low fuel that also can't be seen if your going 60 mph?

Those freaking lights?

Sorry, those indicator lights suck!
They have sucked ever since the spun aluminum gauges came out!
No eay way to fix and it seems we have just accepted the fact and moved on.
You are right, night time use is acceptable but in the sunshine they are just not useable.

Have never seen this problem on any of mine. Lights are working and can be seen when they are lit.

Pretty much a typical Harley situation, one set of indicators can only be seen at night, and a different set of indicators (air/oil/volt/fuel) can only be read during the day.  This and about a hundred other things have caused me to be thoroughly convinced that no one at H-D actually rides these bikes.  We all know they don't actually test the new stuff, but wouldn't you think that Willy or one of the other aces would notice gauges and indicators that you can't read?  Or are these items not really intended to be used?  I guess you could make the argument that in the good ol' days the only indicators were a speedometer, a green neutral light, and a blue high beam indicator, and we managed to survive, so all that other crap is superfluous.  Maybe that's why the stuff they use is so cheap, they don't think we really look at it or try to use it!

I thought maybey one of you guys were able to take the gauge apart and remove the stuff behind the spun aluminium so the lites could be seen if one of them should come on. The only one I can see during the day is the cruise control light, because it's bigger than the others. The only time I can tell if I'm in 6th gear is if I can't shift up anymore LOL.

With the carbon look gauges on the BLK, the lights come up nicely at any time. I know it does not help the majority here.

Ride safely,
