Low End Torque
« on: February 12, 2006, 12:54:03 AM »

Performance Gurus,
2005 Ultra 1450
SE Air Filter Kit
SE One Piece Performance Mufflers
SERT
I ride 1 up and ride between 55 to 65 mph. Two lane roads mostly. Ocassionally ride on interstate.
I have slow roll on power when passing cars. I need to down shift to get power.
Also the pipes start making a rappy-tinny sound from 60 on up.
Could my pipes not have enough back pressure?
What about a change to the SE Pro Performance with end caps?
Will cams help?
Here is my dyno chart. Check it out and give me your thought and comments.
Thanks for your help,
magnoliarunner

Magnolia,

Well there are some questions begging to be asked.   You're doing 60 miles an hour, but at what rpm?   My guess is you tooling around at a low RPM hence the kick down.   Sounds more like you're wanting a cam with a quick closing intake to give you the down low torque to come in sooner.   Give us an idea of what RPM Range your talking about.

Personally I would send off my juggs stock ones have them bored out to be the same as the 95" kit and then have your stock heads worked.  Would recommend either a 37g or a 55g cam from andrews keeping the compression around 9.5 to 10 to 1 and that way you can keep reliability and have the power your looking for.

Thanks,

thats a pretty good looking dyno for a stocker.
most 1450's have around 75#'s of torque.

Magno,
I agree with the posts so far.  You have a bike that's 750lbs before you get on.  I had an Ultra and found the same situation (which pushed me to buy the SEEG), anyway,  remember,  there is no replacement for displacement.  The 95" kits with a decent set of pipes and call Bobby Woods for your cams......they're torque animals.....

with stock heads and 1450 , a TW21G  or TW26G would help. If you go up to 95 and headwork , or SE Heads then there are more options.  The TW37/31G depending on compression (37 up to 9.8 , 31 over ) or the Woods TW5G are nice options. When you get to the .570 range look into roller rockers.

I was told that by one of my sponsors who built engines for me back in my racin days. So I always just went by that. It could very well be 8=1.

I gotta finish my big bowl of ice cream now...

Seven pounds equals One horsepower. So I guess some of the cheapest mods would be to loose weight. Easier said than done. I've gained twenty five pounds over the last 8 months! So it looks like my bike will be loosing

Hubbard,

That was not directed at you. Hope you don't think that. I was basically talking about a hp/weight ratio. And referring to myself about loosing hp when I set my girth down on my SEEG.
More weight also gives more traction so we won't break loose when we crank it up...

Damn, I'm feelin the urge for a few snickers bars. [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Take Care,

Jenny Craig

You might want to make a note of that - in case I end up with some Ham n Eggs (and no toast...)

Iff'n you dunno what the heck I'm talking about - Go look in "humour"

Cheers
