Thoughts after 3 months and 10K miles.
« on: June 11, 2010, 08:36:56 AM »

1.    This particular set of Dunlops (primarily the rear) is the worst tire I have ever ridden on any street bike. She is getting Metzeler 880s mounted   this morning.
2.   The gain of almost 100 lbs over my 2008 RG is very noticeable.
3.   This bike is nowhere near as nimble and quick in the tight twisties as the 2008.  I spent most of this week on my 08 prior to its sale.
4.   Cornering Clearance (lean angle) is better on the 2009.
5.   I like to 110 a lot now that she has been opened up.  Debating on a set of cams….
6.   They should redesign either the crash bar or the saddle bag guards, cause these bags touch when the bike is dropped on its side.
7.   I really miss my narrow rear tire!!!!!!!!!!!
8.   I do not like the 12 inch shocks at all.  Upgrade to come very soon!!!
9.   Shame on HD for not painting all inner fairings!
10.   Having 18 inch wheels really limits tire choices.

All that said, this is a much better bike then the 2008 overall.  These really are a good value for what you pay (assuming you got yours for under MSRP as I did).  I am glad I made the upgrade!!

Those are some curious thoughts with regard to the handling. Becoming a new owner tomorrow and coming off a sport bike, my concern will be trying to not tear up the saddlebag extensions leaning/running thru corners. I know I will have to get used to "SUV" handling as opposed to the "Corvette" handling I am used to. BUT that will be a minor/temporary glitch. I am looking forward to bagger.

Interesting observation about the dunlops - I had Metz on my 2008 RG and think these tires are on par with them but that's me. Glad you like the new ride though.

You'll lov ethe RG, it handles great for a tourer.  Maybe not on par with my FZ1, but definitely as good as my old FJ1200.

I almost took your post serious until I got to #6.......that was hilarious. :huepfenlol2:

I'm on a 10 SESG and while I have scraped the back of the floorboards in the twisties, the bags haven't touched yet.  The trick is to not make a habit of dropping it. :2vrolijk_21:

I'm also totally happy with the performance of the stock tires and love the Blade wheels.......it's the best wheel the MoCo has ever put out.  Yep, I got a set of Blade wheels off of an 09 SERG on my 10 SESG....none better. :2vrolijk_21:

I think there will come a time (after a few miles.......maybe 10k or 20k) when you'll realize that these bikes handle better than anything prior to 09.

Well, I have 10K, and until two days back was riding them side by side.  The frame is stiffer on the 09, but no stiffer than after I
