Intercom for 09 SERG
« on: June 02, 2010, 12:25:22 PM »

Hey guys have upgraded the radio and the amp and speakers. Sound is good. wife would like some form of communication on rides but the bike is not wired from the factory. I've not used anything like this since the old gold wing days. Should I include something that would allow music as well? 85% will be with helment some without but would not determine the outcome. Should I hardwire something or go wireless. thanks for the help. Really want to get something done before our 10 day ride in Yellowstone and surrounding area.

your opening a can of worms.  i went with harley intercom module and the boom wiring harness vs the set up you see on ultras
then i bought j&M headsets.

next layer would be to get your zumo barking orders into your hk music for which either a J&M device or Kennedy tech device does that nicely.
otherwise your zumo goes into aux input on hk radio and you do without hk radio i.e. an either or.

can of worms!

Yea I figured as much. I was trying to follow you reasoning but I don't know anything about this stuff. I really hate buying the Harley stuff. Just haven't had much luck with the quality. I still trying to find a good place to mount the 660 Zumo. I'm on my 3rd mount now. I wish someone made the parts needed to mount in the fairing gauge hole as I've seen done.

Sounds like your a couple months behind me in doing the electronics to your bike.  I went with 2 different mounts for the zumo until i ended up with a control mount by techmount . good quality and it keeps the zumo away from the gauges but close enough to be seen and used.

i hard wired into the fairing connecting to the kennedy tech module which allows the voice prompts to be heard thru the hk xm radio
if this is the track you wish to go pm me and i will get you more detail

Sorry-

www.webbikeworld.com

Click on reviews at the top, scroll down a little and look on the right and click on "Sena SMH10"..

After you read that, look to the rght again and gives review of the Cardo Scala G4..

Both are wireless, intercoms, and GPS and cell compatable but  they give the Sena SMH10 the nod.

Fwiw, here's the same headset as Harley, but has silver cups instead of black, for much less.

If you use the promotion code of HDForum, there's like a 10% discount too.

Go bluetooth; wires suck!

Technology isn't perfect, but beats getting tied up in wiring. My bluetooth helmets are paired to my Zumo, along with my cell phone, so I can access phone, nav, tunes, and intercom with my BSR.

Agreed, bluetooth is great - when it works. Nothing worse than siting on the side of the road farting around with it when everyone else is waiting to roll.

For $70, these are good back ups, if nothing else.

The owner and ceo of J&M told me not to go with bluetooth if you have the HK radio.  The HK radio provided a more reliable and better quality option given the state of the art with bluetooth.  I had been hell bent on getting rid of all the wires.
