Anybody have fairing fitment issues with J&M Speakers?
« on: June 14, 2010, 08:01:29 PM »

Re- 2009 SERG

So I find an independent wrench nearby-comes highly recommended- I have him install my J&M speakers and other stuff....he said he's been fiddling around for 4 hours and can't get the fairing back on because of the speakers- he has given up.

Screwed up my trip I planned for the next 2 days- was planning on running down to Zanotti's in PA to pick up my Tour Pak- I told him to put in the old hogtunes, and give me back my bike.

Anyone else have these issues? I suspect this guy is a little old school, and maybe isn't up on the newer models, or hasn't worked on many Road Glide fairings. Safe to say I'm gonna have to find someone else.

He just called me back- guess he figured he'd give it one more shot since I was upset at him- he says he had to trim a bit of foam near where the glove boxes are, then it just dropped right in.

Still, don't recall anyone else having this issue.

Put mine in without any problems what so ever. I took the head lights out when i put the fairing back on so i could see the alignment tabs...Glad he got it put back together.. The speakers are much better than stock.

No problems here.  See:  Installing the New J&M 250w Amp. in a CVO Road Glide.

Your "wrench" should have recommended an antenna inside the fairing as long as it was being removed.   :nixweiss:

I suspect your wrench would have had problems putting fairing back on even if you didn't have the new speakers.  I had the same amount of trouble that I always have putting on the fairing following installation of the speakers, amp and inside fairing antenna.

Apparently it already has an internal antenna- the previous owner says it runs off the internal and external antenna.

So get this- the guy REMOVED MY HOG TUNES AMP!!!!!!!. Unbelievable...he said since when I mentioned I was going to sell the Hog Tune speakers, he thought I mentioned that I plan to sell the old system as a whole....meanwhile, I gave him a written note with what I wanted done, and it said "Install new speakers and foam with existing amp".

Long story short, he never put it back in because he had such a hard time with the fairing before- he did the rest of the stuff, I picked up my bike, he insisted that I don't pay him anything. I found another shop in the area I will have re-install the amp, and put on my Kury licence plate frame.

So, I'll do my 2 day trip with ampless J&M's  >:(

I agree it was a very easy install to do the 7.25 speakers, the amp and the hidden antenna.  Only hard part is putting the front part of the fairing back on.  That has always been hard to get it all lined up, has nothing to do with the speakers
