Anyone know "SE Pro" 50 mm TB 27623-05 ?
« on: July 05, 2010, 11:36:27 PM »

Just got off the phone with a buddy who'd ordered the SE Pro 50mm throttle body who is now asking why it won't work on his 05 model bike.  He didn't check the publicly printed description before ordering.

The spec's say won't work on prior to 06 models.  I've never had one of these in hand though so don't know a thing about the part.

Anyone know if some change of intake flanges or other parts will allow this throttle body to work on an 05?  Also vaguely remember something about an SE throttle body that was published as not working with cruise control (no cable attachment point?).  Might as well try to find out before he asks later; anyone know if this part is cruise control compatible?

Thanks

Intake flanges are different and the connectors are different for the injectors are different. Both can be changed so it can be made work on a 05 model. It will work with cruise.

Thanks Jim.  So just using the older style intake flanges and the 05 and previous fuel injectors?  Simple solutions there.  Thanks very much. :2vrolijk_21:

Yes on the flanges, I am not 100% on the fitment of the 05 injectors. You can however use the 06 injector connectors on the bike's harness.

Got it.  Will either compare myself or make sure he does before it goes too far.  He's preparing for a top end replacement so is in the parts collection phase making for no particular rush at the moment.

Don,

I also believe there is a change in the IAC bolts and maybe to the IAC itself.   I know the older one is larger bolts holding in the iac.

I know your friend has the TB in route, but has he considered sending his original to Horsepower Inc to have it enlarged and selling the 06 later vs. rewiring and buying new injectors  :nixweiss:

I was asked in to this late Harry.  So far only trying to confirm if there's an easy usage option for a part he bought, one of which I'd never had in hand before, and he's hoping to use.  I do know he bought the thing cheap.  So reselling is always an option (though cheap was part of his goal and the HPI option moves away from that).

I'll compare part numbers on the IAC motor and other intake mounted pieces to see what's really what.  Sounds like Jim has (hopefully) actually been-there-and-done-that before.  So am crossing my finger that some old flanges and a pair of injectors will get him home.

Don there is definitely rewiring to be done and that harness has been problematic in the past for at least a few people.    Best of luck in helping your bud.

I installed one on my 2004 SEEG :pumpkin:, I bought it from a CVOHARLEY member (i think we agreed on $200). It came with the injectors and the larger manifold flanges, the only issue was the wiring is completely different (colors don't match and plugs are different pin configuration), I had to employ the services of a master HD mechanic who had done one previously and saved the information regarding the wiring (i believe I gave him $100) and he ordered the proper plugs for me (they were inexpensive). performance wise I love it, I got 113 HP and still get 35-40 mpg when taking it easy. Oh yeah! the price was also right!

I've got 05 and 06 schematics here.  And exchanging plugs is no biggie;  if that's all it is.  Though I thought the difference between the earlier and later injectors was more than a harness connector.  Got a feeling his bargain is going to cost me a couple hours time some Saturday....

Don I just did this on a 06 Dyna

The owner of the bike did not want to have his bike down for a while so he acquired an 05 set of heads and had them reworked. The intake flanges did not work from an 05. We even tried a set from Kuryakyn with no luck. HPI makes a set for around $80 that with a set of S&S intake gaskets worked great. I posted the part numbers on another forum last month because no one there had the answer.

The electrical connectors for the injectors are the only connector on the bike that when disassembling, slide in....not out. So you will have to cut the pins as close as possible and install the new connectors....dont forget to install the connector before crimping/soldering the pins on.

If I had to do it again....send out the stock intake to HPI and bore it

Thanks Brian.  None of it sounds all that dramatic; if it were mine on a lazy rainy Saturday with the beer fridge close by.  But he likes to "help" too much.  And he can almost tell the difference between a spanner and a Spaniel.  So I'm thinking he needs to sell his cheaply bought TB and put the money toward something that he can just bolt on.

I would stay away from the part.

When my 05-FLT-engine broke in 07 they mixed pre- and after 06-intake-parts for the rebuild.

The bike never really ran ok afterwards and the engine broke twice since, last time fatally in 09.

I can't pin it exactly to the fact of mixing up those parts but it left a bad feeling ...
