Lovin' my Progressive 440s
« on: June 25, 2010, 09:15:43 PM »

Bought a pair of almost new 440s on another forum, slapped 'em on, and after 4 days, I really like them.  Totally different ride.  For a mid priced shock, these inertia activated models rock!

I just installed the 940s and they really made a difference.  No more air shocks.

Thinking about upgrading to Progressive all the way around.  What is the difference between 940 & 440's?

The 940s only have one part number.  No standard or Heavy Duty choice, no height choice.  They automatically lower 1" from stock 13" Touring height (except SGlides) without losing that inch of travel upward.  I got them on Ebay for $489 shipped which I thought was fair.  Retail $699.

I spoke with the Progressive folks at Thunder Beach this Spring.  I specifically asked about the 940's vs the 440's.  Their reply was that while the 940's are an improvement over stock, the 440's are the optimum choice in the Progressive line.  I just had the 440HD's installed on the 08 and I'm very happy with them.

How's that? On their website they make it seem like the 940's are their latest and greatest version??

I wanted the 940's for the convenience of adjustment but they talked me out of them in favor of the 440's.  I'm happy with what I got but don't have the 940's to compare them to.

I also have the monotubes coming for the front and apparently you put shims on based on your weight.  I'm about 210-215 geared up.  Any idea how many shims??

I also have monotubes and 940s on the way, should be here monday.  From what Frank at progressive told me, there are now spacers included with the monotubes since some customers were commenting that the tubes lowered the front end about 1/2" from stock.  If you install the spacers, it corrects this.  If not it MAY sit a bit lower but each bike is different.  Good Luck!
