Cams without headwork
« on: April 29, 2014, 03:41:20 PM »

I have an 05 CVO Flhtce and plan on changing Cams and am wondering what is the Most lift I can use without removing heads? I was told I  can go with Andrews 57. My buddy has an 04 and I was told he has less clearance than my 05?

I went with the Zippers 575 in mine.  Work fine with the stock heads and runs real good!

I see Andrews has just come out with the 557 conversion cam and am leaning that way.I was running aAndrews37 in my other bike and really liked it and this newer 57 is basically the same cam with a higher lift for the 103/110

.575 lift
Keep it very short, duration and overlap. You have very low compression! A Wood 5 would be a fine change, Wood 222, Tman 555TQ. You will need a conversion cam if the 07up roller chain setup is used or the HD hybrid cam plate kit to update from the outdated tensioners. The hybrid kit uses the older style cams, ball bearings in the cam plate.

In the early bikes (2006 older) what works in one maynot work in another. The safe bet is not to go beyond .550 valve lift. Some heads would allow more but once above that number you get into the range of you had better check.

I was told by a local tuner that cam would work in my bike, but not an 04. And I do want the conversion cams.

If you have a 04/05 103 SE motor. Zippers 575 cams, fueling oil pump and plate S&S lifers and adjustable push rods. Tuned right this combo will last as long as your flywheels don't slip on you.

Good luck in your decision
