Brightasslight Install Question
« on: July 18, 2010, 05:32:25 PM »

Anybody installed one of BA Lights led tail lights? If you have, how difficult was the installation and are there any details to consider or things you'd have done differently, knowing what you know now about the installation? I just got one of their 4 bulb models and the gasket seemd over sized for the backer plate. Would appreciate anyone else who has this tail light sharing their experience if they installed it themselves or observed it being installed. Thanks

I installed mine (BAL-1R; basic four LED model, but all red lens) about two months ago.  Just followed the directions and don't recall there being any particular tricks or difficulties to attaching the gasket and installing the tail light--works great.

+1...  Gasket fit fine.  Did use a little black duct tape to seal the holes where the wires come through the fender to keep dirt/water out.  Don't have to, but I'm just too anal.

Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like the main thing is to keep gasket within the base plate and to the extent possible seal the holes where the wires come thru the fender.

Just take note of how the stock light's gasket is installed and copy that, piece of cake...  I love this light, kinda wish I had bought the 12 light one!!

Thanks. I called manufacturer and they told me the whole idea is to have the edge of the gasket tight to the inside edge of the chrome flange so that when you install the tail light housing the edge of that housing presses tightly against the gasket to seal out water from penetraing the outer edge of the tail light. Then they said to use the knock outs from the gasket to further seal around the wires coming thru the gasket.
