Hot Engine?
« on: March 02, 2006, 04:09:34 PM »

One thing I've noticed with my new Ultra SE is that when the bike is warmed up the engine seems to throw a lot more heat than my 2000 FLHTC which was a 95ci with a 204SE cam. I'm thinking maybe this is due to the larger displacement or maybe the heads/rocker boxes are a bit taller and closer to my legs. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm also thinking about installing these shields I saw at http://www.eglidegoodies.com/id11.html
Has anyone used these? If so, what do you think about them? Thanks gang!

SEULTRA its the lowers, I'm guessing since you said your last bike was a FLHTC it didn't have lowers. Don't know why but the lowers increase the heat. I've looked at those heat deflectors also, I'm interested in seeing  what anyone that has them has to say.   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Combination of lowers and more motor are probably the causes. I had considered the items you mentioned also but was concerned it would hinder the air movement around the rear jug (which is the one that gets the hottest). It would keep the heat off your legs, but is it keeping the heat on/near the motor? [smiley=confused5.gif]

I have several friends that have these shields and they all swear by them. I will probably get a pair for this summer and they come in dark tint to match the plastic on the fairings.
