Fiberglass wrap on Fullsac 2.0" baffles ?
« on: August 17, 2010, 09:40:17 PM »

On my '10 SESG, I have fullsac's 2.0" baffles with the cat removed from the header. They seem a bit loud and "barky" to me. Would wrapping the baffles in fiberglass improve the tone and quiet them down just a bit? What kind of fiberglass? Any tips/techniques for doing this job?

Thanks in advance guys.

i re-wrap the baffles in my kerkers w/ muffler packing from the local motocross/atv place. you can order it thru dennis kirk and your dealer can get it thru drag specialties. get some ss wire from the hardware store to wrap around the fiberglass. makes it easier to stuff the baffle back in the muffler.

Did that to mine thinking that it would work. Not much change so I ended up buying new mufflers. I still have one package of the left over material somewhere around here if you want it.

Couple of questions:
Do have the stock screen and glass packing in your mufflers and are they still intact?
When did you purchase your 2" cores?
What is the length of the tail piece from the plate to the tip?
I can offer up some tips on glass packing when you fill me in on the above!

HogMike, you embarrass me man, I'm strictly a Visa and cellphone kind of mechanic.
I have the fullsac cores purchased from Steve, but installed at the dealer. Using the stock muffler shells.
I was looking for good instructions to give my tech. A good guy and would do anything I asked him to do.

$.02:  When I installed  2" Fullsac cores in my '09 SERG muffler cans, I reused the stock muffler packing.  Works fine.  Great sound but not too loud.  I think a lot of guys did the same.

I also have Fullsac 2" baffles in CVO mufflers and I just removed the stock packing from my mufflers...
it gave them a slightly better tone... for me anyways..

Reason I asked is there are a couple of things you can do. Wrapping the baffles does not seem to help.
Making sure you have good packing between the outer shell and the inner screen (about 1/2 inch) is what we see most.
You CAN have your guy check these things, and if the OEM glass is gone, replace it with about 1 inch of new long-strand glass, but, make sure its between the outer shell and the screen, you need that air gap between the core and the screen. I'm going to try some of this stuff one of these days to maybe quiet my bikes down a bit more:

http://www.amazon.com/Moose-Racing-Fiberglass-Muffler-Packing/dp/B001DDAA26

I have the 2" with tru-duals in my big bike, and the 1 3/4" in my limited. Could not be happier with the sound, but, that's subjective anyway!!
Didn't mean to embarrass you, just assumed too much on my part!!!
Hope this helps a bit.

I have the 2" Fullsac's and catless header.  Initially, I left the stock packing in and ran about 106 db.  I repacked them using a ceramic 1" blanket (and it was a PITA).  The sound dropped a whopping 1 db to 105 db.  The only advantage I have seen from the repacking and use of the ceramic blanket is pipes run much cooler and you can touch them without burning the skin off your fingers.

I think I will be switching to the 1.75" Fullsac baffles and see what that does.

I tried everything as well on the two inchers, 1.75's with the factory packing in place worked perfectly for me.

09SEUC. I must be losing my hearing or something. I am running 2.25" Fullsac's and catless headpipes. Baffles were installed with the factory muffler packing still intact. They were not as loud as I had hoped. They sound great. So far nobody thinks they are too loud. They are new and only been on bike for about 2 weeks. I was used to hearing the Rush pipes on my old RKClassic. My buddy's 09UC with 96" and Rush pipes is way louder than mine. Still happy with Fullsac's and keeping look of factory pipes they were just not as loud as I thought they would be. Just FYI.

I agree- Fullsac 2.25's and x pipe, and no way do I or anyone else consider my bike very loud- maybe more like "tastefully loud".
