Reflectors and their removal
« on: June 08, 2010, 09:10:53 AM »

OK, I see in the SERG pics a lot of comments about reflectors, or lack of. I have taken mine off previous bikes but they were always bolt-ons. It appears the SERG's are stick-on. True? I am guessing the removal method is sawing them off with fishing line. Then just clean up the left over adhesive. Now, I am going to be buying a used bike that has had them on since new..... I am wondering if there will be a mark left in the paint on the bags because they have been on for a while. I am sure the forks won't have any issues.

Surprised guys have not jumped on this.  There are various comments on this but not sure if I recall a specific thread.  Fishing line works fine.  Probably wise to apply some WD-40 or glue removal product like Goof Off first and let it soak in for five minutes or so to dissolve the adhesive.  Heat guns work too.  Any leftover marks can be removed with a good polish.

Thanks for the replies. I am figuring that will be my first "mod" once I get it home.

Done..... The amber ones on the forks were barely stuck on. Just a little on the edges and that was it. The rears were fully stuck and it took a few extra minutes to get the adhesive and sponge rubber.

I am finally reflector free!!   :bananarock:

Heated them up with a heat gun on low, pulled them off, and kept heating the remaining adheadive and lightly rubbed it off with my finger (YES< it was HOT... lol). Cleaned it up with a little alcohol, and I'm done!

My front ones weren't stuck on very well either... there was a lot of dirt under the adhesive, where it had worked its way into parts that weren't stuck well.
