I've had this seat on my 2008 SERK for just over a year now. I'm very happy with it as far as comfort goes. If there's one thing I don't like it's the plain smooth cover that came on it. I plan to have it recovered this winter with something in leather. The longest trip I've done in one day was about 450 miles and my butt didn't complain at all. I'd recommend it. Hope this helps.

Is the rider backrest an integral part of the seat, or is it fastened to the rear fender?

The backrest is an integral part of the seat, it does not hook to the back fender.

Installation is a snap. It attaches to the two posts under the old seat.
