K&N high flow custom intake assembly
« on: September 07, 2010, 10:53:36 PM »

Has anyone tried the K&N high flow custom intake assembly (RK-3930) for the 2010 SEUC?  Zippers Maxflow and K&Ns deep round filter wont hold up to the weight of the factory football cover.  It keeps pulling the center section out of the filter.

Right now I'm using the Maxflow filter on the SE back plate with the Skull cover (29417-04) and an Outerwears pre-filter.  It works great but just doesn't look as good as the factory cover.

480Ruger, I made a flat metal plate which  attaches to the K&N air filter in three places, at the air filter mouting studs( I used the stock mounting plate as a template ).Because of the hump in the middle of the K&N filter I had to use longer screws and some small spacers, and of course drill a hole in the middle for the center bolt. I also had to use the air cleaner service gasket (part no. 29591-99 which costs $11.35) to make sure that the original football cover (09SEUC) was a snug fit. When drilling the center hole I made sure that the metal plate covered  most of the hump in the center of the air filter  that the large air filter cover bolt  goes thru so the metal plate could prevent  tension on the center part of the air filter that is caused when you tighten the large center bolt. It all  feels very solid. Although I do not have too many miles on since I put the plate on I feel very confident that center of the K&N air filter will not pull out again. Sorry for no pictures, but by the time that crossed my mind it was all back together. I had an earlier post where I adapted the stock air filter plate to the K&N filter and stock football cover, but it stuck out about 3/4 of an inch farther and lowered the cover a little. I feel that the way I have it now is much better, although using the stock air filter cover mounting bracket was a lot easier. CAHDBIKER
