I checked the plug wires and popped them off the plugs and put them back on. They seemed fine. But now that I think about it the problem showed up last Tuesday night when I washed it after a 800 mile ride over the weekend ?
Very likely your wash job is the culprit. Even though it would seem that a vehicle like a motorcycle should be capable of handling wet conditions, since they are often ridden in inclement weather and do tend to need washing once in a while, Harley's don't have a great reputation for water tight electrical connections. And if you have an add-on tuning device like a Power Commander, they are also famous for water getting into the ECM connector and causing all sorts of problems.
A good coating of dieletric grease in all the important electrical connectors is a good idea, after blowing any moisture out of the terminals. I also apply it to the interior of the plug wire boots, to help keep water out and to make it easier to remove the plug wires at maintenance time.
