Cruise Control Problem
« on: September 02, 2010, 09:54:56 AM »

I'm having a problem with my cruise control, a couple of dealers have been unable to fix. it will work for a couple of days and then go out, I notice also that when the cruise stos working the 6th speed gear indicator light also goes out. It will also go out in 4th and 5th gears. Driving down the road the 6th gear indicator light and cruise control can go on and off a couple of times a minute and then work for a couple of hundred miles. I have eliminated loose connections and thinking more about what ever part controls the clutch disengate circuit to the computer? Any idea's would be helpfull.

Just throwing out something.  The 6th gear indicator light works by measuring the vehicle speed vs. rpm of one of the components, engine or a transmission shaft; I don't remember which.  The cruise control will kick off if the engine speed changes in relation to the speed (like if you drop it down a gear whether you pull the clutch in or not).  It sounds like whatever is sensing the gear position might be disengaging the cruise when it thinks you aren't in 6th all of a sudden.

Clutch switch will turn off the 6th gear light and kill the cruise.  Worth checking inside the left grip.

You haven't changed your gearing, or have you?  If so, some of the guys have had to reprogram their ECM depending on what programming software they have.

Just thought I'd ask.

As will a break light I believe.  I know it kills the Cruise Control but I'm not 100% it deactivates the light.  Worth checking inside the right switch housing and the right foot pedal.

I was experiencing similar problems with the 6th gear indicator/cruise control. I narrowed mine down to the Power Commander 5 that I'm using. The tech support guy, Chris, at Dynojet had me disable some things and it seems to be working correctly so far.

If you're not using a Power Commander, this probably doesn't help much.

The clutch switch is the only thing I know of that will shut off the 6th gear light AND the cruise control at the same time.
