Los Angeles trip (spring 2011)
« on: May 13, 2010, 04:25:59 PM »

Does anybody know of Harley rental prices in Los Angeles, is there a shop/(friend of a friend) that somebody can rent a Harley at a weekly rate that wont need a mortgage overdraft.

I have won a trip to LA with one weeks harley rental with eaglerider, (this trip must not be taken in high season or during any major events) I am looking into hiring a second bike, I will probably take this trip next spring 2011

Here's one to check:  Route 66 Riders.

It's next to Bartell's HD in Marina Del Rey.

my 1week trip has to taken in low season, which seems to be 1nov 2010 to 31mar 2011,

does the weather need to come into my considerations or is it a all year riding season in the LA and Frisco area?

I dont have any defined ideas yet what would you guys suggest as must do`s?

Well that's certainly the wet season for Cali. and a little cool to cold, also.  Could be a pretty miserable week depending on the weather.  Spring or fall would be a better opportunity if you need to go in the low season oct/nov or feb/mar?

While the place that Greg listed is very pricey (you can get an Ultra Classic in Nor Cal for $100 a day in off season), it's not close to a mortgage payment.  I think you'll be shocked at the prices of homes in Calif. even in the economic slump. :o

Besides Hwy. 1 from Santa Barbara to Monterey, I'd also suggest considering Yosemite National Park (may not be able to make it depending on what month, due to snow) and Lake Tahoe (the same would apply).  You also have the Napa Valley area and other locations depending on when you're coming.  Keep us posted.

Keep the info coming guys, most likely dates would be in March 2011, I dont think we would plan an itinery to much, my wife has a friend in frisco she wants to visit, we are tending towards a 2week holiday so 1weeks harley rental in the middle with a few days either side to chill out!

The eaglerider firm (http://www.eaglerider.com/vehicle-list.aspx) I get one bike from is $798 for 7days hire with a street glide

H.O.G. Fly & Ride has the best price with insurance and no hidden add-ons. $100 per day, and you can pick it up in the morning and return in the afternoon, which is like an extra day for free if planned right. Glendale Harley and Loma Linda Harley are Fly & Ride destinations in the Los Angeles area. If you have a choice, I'd prefer Glendale. When you book they charge a 50% deposit, which is fully refundable, unless you cancel very late, when they charge a small fee. Way better than what anyone else offers.

time to ressurect this thread, first question for you knowledgable folk, how much of rt66 is actually rideable from Barstow/LA to Flagstaff, or is it a case of taking I40 which links into 66 enroute?

Thanks Marty, its looks to me after searching along google maps/ tom tom and via michelinthat there is quite a long section of the old road still used from Laughlin via Kingsman, Valentine, Peach Springs, Seligman and then on I could join I40 to Flagstaff.

here is the deal, I will be taking my free 7day bike rental from eaglerider at LAX, while my wife will take a HOG rental from Glendale, the latest I can book my prize is starting 3rd May 2011, so just missing the Laughlin river run!

thinking of riding and seeing as much as possible,
day1 leaving LAX and Glendale and heading up to Barstow rt66 I40 stopping in Laughlin overnight,
day2 via rt66 Kingman Valentine Peach Springs Seligman then I40 to Flagstaff ,
day3 hang a left and up rt89 to Page AZ by Lake Powell,
day4 from Page heading towards Panguitch UT and if time allows visit Bryce Canyon,
day5 Panguitch Heading to Vegas again if time allows via Dixie  & Zion NP then down I15,
day6 from Las Vegas west towards Pahrump /I190 Death Valley to Ridgecrest
from Ridgecrest back to LA on day7,
where we will give the bikes back and take a rental car for 2days, travel along Highway1 up to San Francisco, we will hand the rental car in then spend a few days exploring Frisco using public transport

Interestingly, we're waking up in Page, Az. this morning.

The Powell Papalooza Music Festival is going on this weekend so no rooms available in town.  We're at the Lake Powell Lodge.....a very nice place and the rooms have a patio or balcony overlooking the lake.  You might want to check it out.
