hk radio harley programming
« on: October 03, 2010, 10:56:21 AM »

does anybody know what I have to do to get the full output frequency from my factory hk radio on my '09 cuse4?  i would like to get the 7-1/2 inch j&m speakers but it would be a waste of money without getting the full response from either the factory radio and/or amp.  do I need to replace the amp or the radio or is there another solution?

I am not sure I understand the question.
programming sometimes cuts out low frequencies to stop the robbing of important power.
You are getting the full output without doing anything over a narrowed freq band.
I do not know how to expand that band, but you will need much more power if you do.
without addressing enclosures and speakers this is a complex project.
Turn the tourpack into a reflex passive subwoofer?
The HK radio system has an amplifier output (I do not know the wattage output) that will drive 2 speakers.
They added an amplifier to drive 4 speaker systems.
The nominal resistance of speakers is needed to know if your amp/radio will drive them.

The factory radio amp is not strong (hence the added amp) and cannot take low impedance speakers.

If you want the best sound and volume, get good high efficient speakers and a good Amp. (the biggest issue is where to put the amp, there is little room under the batwing)

The only programming I've heard of is with the Boom amp/rear speaker kit, and that reprograms the new under tour pak amp; not the earlier version amp used on the '10 and older CVO Ultras.  As for the J&M 7.25" speakers, there are plenty of happy customers using them with and without amps, so I'm not sure what level of difference you anticipate with the new amp and programming, and that kit uses the Bass port in the tour pak.

If you have the B amp, it can be reprogrammed to lower the low end filter. This is included with the tourpak port kit.
