What is it with this...
« on: October 12, 2010, 10:52:21 AM »

...latest fad of putting a bicycle front wheel on motorcycles?  They end up looking like chop saws.  The tires have almost no sidewall so pot holes are a constant threat, there is little thread width, and they are just plain ugly!  :soapbox:  Hopefully the fad will last about as long as spinner wheels did.

Never seen, heard of nor smelled this "fad."  Just tried casting the runes for intuited knowledge and came up blank.

I think he is refering to some of the fearured bikes in the mags as some are now using 26" front wheel and tires. Better for show bikes but not for practical riding. :nixweiss:

Writing in the bike mags had gotten so poor and so simplistic that I stopped subscribing or buying a few years back.  So apparently had missed this whole trend.  That and not being able to figure out how to mount the spoked wheel off a Schwinn on the Road King project really had me confused.

It goes hand in hand with putting a car tire on the rear. Yea,.....I'd like to see a bike with one of those "Schwinn" type front wheels and a car tire on the rear.

That's what I was talking about, sorry, should have been more specific.  Hideous looking wheels.

Have you ever noticed most stupid fads are for show bikes & trailer queens. I would love to see one of those things go up Brushy Mtn Rd in Wilkes Co, NC

As long as it remains a show bike thing, fine with me.  But when people sell the stuff to unsuspecting people for their street bikes, it's not even close to being fine with me.  As far as I'm concerned, not only does that look totally repugnant (just like the same style looks on a Hummer, btw) but it also negatively impacts ride, handling, and safety.  If the general public were all trained engineers and had the good sense to avoid this stuff, it would quickly fade away.  As long as we have so many folks with a burning desire for attention, however, we will continue to see dumb and dumber stuff like this.
