High Point, NJ
« on: October 11, 2010, 11:13:16 PM »

Headed up to High Point on Sunday and should arrive around noon. If foliage is changing, you will see it from here. 3 states visible from up here, NY, Pa, and of course-Joisy. Some of the best roads in the state, just watch for critters. Last year I got hit in the helmet with a pheasant that crossed against the green. Good food and bike friendly places near by. Weather looks like its going to be cool but nice.See you there.Pics will follow.

It's a clearing on the top of a mountain that predominantly faces east. You can see to the horizon as the mountainside drops away to the valley and just visually goes off to the horizon. Back in the day, we used to make sure we were there by sun up and catch a really glorious sunrise. It's a cool ride up the mountain road with some twisties, and a great overview. There's a paved parking lot and "facilities" to relieve yourself, if it's unlocked. It's a nice little stopover to stretch and pee. There are some trails that you can walk over to a large rock outcropping with a bench to jsut sit down a take it all in. Let's you know that Jersey isn't just smokestacks and warehouses. One of my favorite places and I've been going up there since the early 70's. The paved road going down the mountain, if you make a right, takes you the back way into into Stokes Forest, Steppingstone Falls, and 5 or 6 other great riding roads that go through the woods for miles. Turkey, bear, deer, pheasants, fox... sorry, a bit of a flashback there. Just a real nice ride. There is one small green sign on 206N that points the way in, and if you reach the entrance to the Stokes Forest camping and Ranger station you went just a little too far.

So you want to leave Woodbridge around 9 - Want to meet somewhere in Woodbridge? Which way do you plan on heading from there?

Right now its just me and my son (CVO member) and maybe one other member - if that is OK with your group. If no we could just meet up somewhere, grab lunch or whatever.

Looks to be if a very "bright" ride back south much after 4:30. Just made a run to the store and the sun is low and blinding.

Never heard back so two of us rolled up to the Great Falls, spent an hour there, some more riding, lunch at Rhodes Tavern in Sloatsburg (bike friendly establishment).
It was Oktoberfest at the tavern with all the female help dressed appropriately, and looking good. And then a bunch more good riding through the several State parks.

Sorry I missed out on a possible get together, I ride to High Point pretty often with some friends who live up that way.  Jersey is actually a pretty nice place, you just have to get out just a little bit to see the best of it.

This never became a group ride Pat.

But #2 son and I went anyway and stopped at the falls along the way. Had a great day.

Sorry for the no reply. Got slammed with issues and spent 3 days in Pa. with sick grandson and family, followed by my employer going after 9 more other family members to lay them off. other than a few rides to and from work, Where heated grips went bad, haven't been on 2 wheels for a few weeks. When it rains...
