Blowing Cruise/Brake Fuse
« on: September 11, 2011, 11:02:26 PM »

Well just got through putting the whole bike back together having everything apart including the fairing after installing new radio, the gas tank was off and installed new tail lights. So far I ruled out the tail lights, and the roll-off switch wiring. Has anyone run into this, the short is very intermittent and will go away then after riding or sometimes even moving the bike it will stay shorting a 15 amp fuse or breaker continuously. I am starting to get aggravated needing to rest up before the trip coming up. Really don't need this......grrrrrrrr

Found it

the orange with a violate trace wire just after the interconnect harness 1A/1B black plug had rubbed inside the rs fairing bracket. The sharp edge on the bracket rubbed through the wire insulation, this was just before where the tape had been wrapped on the loom. The hardest part was getting the short to be present long enough to trace. I didn't have my magnetic tracer from work so I had to be creative in using a breaker and just start moving stuff around watching a test light on the circuit. whewwwww......now I just got to put everything back together again. Good this happened now and not in a week and a half.

Nice catch Roy.  In areas like that where things are busy and full that's not an easy find.  Have fun on the non-fuse-blowing trip to MV :2vrolijk_21: .
