Tail pipe clearance...?
« on: August 16, 2009, 07:59:27 PM »

So, did anyone noticed in pics and your bike in the flesh, the left tail pipe is closer to the bags extensions than the right? Even last years SERG were the same way. Wonder if the pipe or bags can be adjusted for even clearance...? Or is this normal characteristics?

yes, you can adjust the saddle bags... by moving the bag forwards or backwards will adjust the height of the bags from the pipes....  My 08 streetglide had the left saddle bag to far forward and the bag rubbed the paint off on one of the side covers I adjusted it back and the dealer got me a new side cover and top for my saddle back because that had the paint rubbed off too...

I haven't seen 1 yet that is even and centered in the opening with stock pipes. My dealer and I both tried several adjustments to no avail. The Vance and Hines pipes do fit right in the center of the opening between bag and fender

About the only way to effectively change the relationship between the pipe and bags is to loosen the muffler clamp at the muffler/exhaust pipe joint  , then loosen the two 5/16 bolt at the rear-top of the muffler and then roll the muffler one way or the other to get the spacing to be the same on both sides. Very little roll makes a lot of difference.

And the end result is that your OCD will be once again 'in check'.  If you're like me, you gotta have 'em 'zackly' the same on each side.  ;)  har. :drink: spyder
