QUICK HELP PLEASE- Smart Siren going off
« on: November 21, 2010, 05:47:23 PM »

just disconnected my battery to install the leads for the battery tender....smart siren is going off. I think it might of stopped now as I removed the battery tray altogether, and made sure all of the several wire leads are not touching the negative and postive battery posts. What did I do wrong? Is the siren going to start to go off again?

Also I broke the plastic clip off the HFSM antenna module  :-[ ...guess I'm gonna have to replace the whole thing.

Thanks

There are instructions in your owners manual as to how to disconnect power from your battery (or pull the master fuse) if you have a smart siren.

Basically, turn your ignition switch (the key switch) to "ignition" first, then pull the fuse or disconnect the power leads to the battery.

Learned that lesson a couple years ago.  Loud isn't it...

Yes, it is piercing loud.

Well, I should have read up on it- I actually did refer to the Service Manual, but I didn't read it enough apparently.

So I've already disconnected the battery without doing so while the ignition is on....I wonder if the siren will keep going off, or maybe I've drained the 9v battery on the alarm?

I'll go hang out in the garage for a bit and see if it stopped.

Well the alarm stopped- maybe I did drain the 9v alarm battery, or maybe it only goes off for so long- in any case, I'll make sure I follow proper procedures for re-installing it in spring, and I'll also have to test the siren to make sure the battery re-charges itself.

Thanks for your quick response sadunbar.

I think it goes off after some period of time...from what I recall when I did exactly what you did the first time.

Yup, it went out. I'll test it out next year and make sure the battery re-charges.

Thanks for the responses.

Just make sure you have the Fob at the bike when you put the battery back in.  It will shut off the security and no screaming.  If not, when it gets current with no Fob... it will just start screaming for mommy again.

Howdy,
I'm getting ready to install a battery tender.  And if I read this thread right, I need to turn the ignition to "on" and then disconnect the fuse before disconnecting the battery to install the leads for the battery tender - to avoid sounding off the siren???

Does it matter if the fob is with the bike when I disconnect the battery- or will the siren still wail at me?

Yep...  The fob needs to be with the bike whan the fuse is pulled/battery is disconnected...   :2vrolijk_21:

Think of it like this - if the security system were armed and someone attempted to defeat it by disconnecting the battery or removing the maxi fuse then the smart siren would sound (since it has its own power source) to alert you.  So you must disarm the security system first and you do that by having the fob present and turning the ignition on.  Then you can remove the maxi fuse without triggering the siren.   :2vrolijk_21:
