E-3
« on: December 18, 2010, 03:41:14 PM »

I installed an E-3 on the back of my 2009 CVO. At 7000 mile it's worm very uneven and is lumpy. Pressure has been OK. What is the problem? It looks like the 407 that was on the front that HD replaced with a 408.

Without a pic hard to have anything real to suggest.  Assuming it's a good tire and assuming the shocks are good and properly inflated "lumpy" tires are usually a tire pressure problem.

I tried taking a picture of the tire but not much luck showing how it's worn.

According to the Dunlop catalog, there isn't an E3 replacement in the proper size (180/65B16) for the rear tire on the CUSE4.  Perhaps muddy is talking about the American Elite series, which does have direct replacements for the D407F and D408 stock tires. :nixweiss:

I'm still confused muddy.  Exactly which Dunlop did you have installed, the bias belted E3 or the radial E3, and what's the size designation on the sidewall?  Dunlop doesn't list a bigger E3 in bias belted for your bike (the largest size listed is 160/80B16 which is supposed to be used on a 3.5 inch rim instead of the 5.0 inch stock rim).  If you go to the E3 radial listing, they show a 180/60R16 or a 180/70R16 which will fit on a 5.0 inch rim.

The 180/70R16 size versus the stock 180/65B16 shouldn't make any difference at all muddy.  Make sure you're running the right air pressure, and verify the gauge you're using by comparing your readings to a known good gauge.  It's not uncommon to find gauges that read high or low by as much as 4-5 psi.

I'd suggest you have the tire checked out by a Dunlop dealer for possible warranty adjustment, assuming air pressure/wheel balance/suspension are all OK.
