Well, if you do not have a SERT and have been thinking about getting one, now is the time!  Parts managers at two different dealers said the SERT is listed on the "Pending Obsolete List".[/highlight]

I am wondering if this is such a great idea, if they are going to axe the RT, who will support it in the future, what if you make some changes down the line, who will remap it for you if you cant work on it yourself, and how many tech's will be put effort into learning and staying versed in developing new maps for a obsolete product.

I find that very hard to believe. As a matter of fact. I dont beleive it. Why would they do that?

They would do that if they recieved pressure from the EPA who is really trying to stop people from riding motorcycles altogether. The EPA does not give a crap about the fact that there is already a product on the market that needs support. They don't give a chit about that anymore than they give a crap about all the smaller custom bike builders they are putting out of business. In effect HD could be forced to comply with the anti tampering crap and just invalidate any warranty on any bike witho0ut OEM intake and exhaust which meet clean air restrictions. It may hurt the Mocco a bit but I doubt it will affect the bottom line long term, people will just adjust because there will be no other option. Plus its a nice trade off since alot of the smaller competition is going to go right under. Most smaller builders cannot afford to get the certifications necc to build factory production bikes that are not considered to be customs which apparently we can only own one of in our lifetime from this point. So if you want a full on custom choose it carefully it will be the last one you ever own plus you are going to have to keep it for 5 years anyhowe since you can't sell it til then.

CVOwner,

H-D would do that if they were faced with huge fines for providing what is termed a "defeat" device, as in defeat the emissions system.

I would think there would still be techs that will work on RT and build/create new maps for mods you may do in the future. I think those that will suffer more are the ones that get new bikes with new technology that is not presently supported by the RT, or you buy a new part that has technology that isn't supported. As long as your tuner has the RT program on his/her computer then they should be able to put your bike on dyno and build a new map for you.

D00d hits the nail right on it's pointy little head.  All those shops that have laid out the money for wonderfully executed dyno rooms and inadequately trained techs will keep right on taking your money to tune existing hardware for as long as they can.  Otherwise the dyno room becomes a storage closet.
