Zumo "voice" navigation
« on: December 28, 2010, 07:51:46 PM »

So I'm guessing here since I won't have the bike out until FRI at the earliest:

1. There is no audio connection from the Zumo on the 2011 SERG

2. The cradle on the left handlebar is power only for the Zumo

Which means, unless I run an ugly cable from the Zumo to the port on the radio, I will not hear the Zumo navigation voice??  And if so, the card I loaded on the Zumo ain't gonna be singing them tunes to me either!!!!
Correct / Wrong ???

Jim, You're wrong and you're right...the nav audio will come through the bike or helmet speakers depending on how you have the speaker switch set.  You won't be able to play MP3 audio without running the "ugly wire" to the front, although I don't know why you need that with the iPod.

I originally posted something but was comming at it from the Ultra Classic.  Now I realize this is regarding the SERG so I deleted the post.  Quick question to help my understanding, does the SERG come with the NIM installed to facilitate the nav audio?  As far as I can tell, the Ultra Classic did not.  Just trying to get a better grip on this topic since the factory didn't fully flush out the nav units on these bikes in my opinion.

That's correct.  The RUSE  has the NIM installed and also has the iPod installed for MP3 use.

Copy my friend.  I was going to give the iPod to one of my nephews.  On Fri I'll test out the Navigation voice. // QUESTION:  What is NIM ???

Well, I rode a bit today -- I cannot get the navigation voice -- I'm betting its a setup or OPerator Error issue -- PS - the iPod works great as does the XM.  DOOFUS

Not to repeat what you might already have read/tried; but ensure your speaker rocker switch is fully depressed and lit, and not in the middle.  If the navigation voice is indeed comming over via the use of the NIM, it will send the audio to a headset with the switch in the middle position.

Hope that does the trick.

Oh, and if you want to test it without having to ride around.  Just tell it to take you to a location, then hit menu, reroute.  It will force the unit to speak on command everytime you ask it to reroute.

Good luck.  :2vrolijk_21:

I'm glad it was that simple for you. Mine didn't have any sound and on examination, found the audio cable from the GPS harness inside the fairing had actually been ripped out from the factory---the wire wasn't even there. But after the dealer replaced the Nav cradle/harness, I'm still having problems. I'm thinking other wires were also damaged. The dealer has worked on it so much they are now replacing my bike with a new FLTRUSE identical to mine.
