Just had a starting problem.
« on: January 23, 2011, 07:55:43 PM »

Went for a ride yesterday with no problems. Went out today for about 8 miles let it sit for around a hour and then it just cranked over and over. Turned the ignition off and on, same thing. Did this a few times and then it fired up. Ran fine, did about the same distance. Turned it off for just a few minutes and the same thing. Finally got it started and the engine light stayed on while it ran. Still ran fine, had about 2 miles to get home. Back home and it is doing it again. I noticed a couple of times the fuel pump did not kick on and also a couple where the pump sounded different when it kicked on. Just turned 1800 miles, its a 09 fat bob cvo. Started it 1/2 hour later with no problem but the engine light is going on and off intermittently while running.  What you guys think?

Either you or your dealer needs to look for an error code.....

Kind of figured that one. Dont have the tools, off to the dealer. 2 months left on warranty. I have not seen any threads anywhere with this problem.

You don't need any tools to check for error codes - but it sounds like taking it to your dealer is a good plan.   :2vrolijk_21:

Too bad the dealers and their mechanics don't have to swear an oath like doctors do.  " First, do no harm".

Code check revieled 0261 front injector, 0263 rear injector and 1003 system relay check.
I cleared the codes and will retry bike later, got to work.
The fuel pump is sounding weird/sick when you first turn the bike on but not every time.

System Relay can be the problem I carry an extra one on the bike.

It's sad when you have to start carrying spare parts with you when you ride. Kinda reminiscent of the AMF days.

Ran the battery down yesterday trying to figure it out.  Back charged up today, ran great. Let it sit and fired it back up without problem. The fuel pump was definitely making 2 different noises. One sounded deeper the other sounds healthy and higher pitched. Could a low battery cause a different sound from the fuel pump?
