2007 CVO recall question
« on: February 14, 2011, 06:19:14 PM »

Let me apologize up front if you all have beat this topic to death but I did a search and didn't find any info on it.

I just bought a used 2007 screaming eagle ultra and it is leaking oil.  I was unaware that there were problems with the early 110" motors,  lesson learned.

Couple of questions.

1. I've read on other forums that some folks have had the warranty work done to replace the heads and head gaskets and then started having oil leak problems.  My bike so far is leaking oil from the rear head and base gasket.  What's the proper fix for this?   New jugs?

2.  Is there a way to tell if the warranty work has been performed on a bike?

Thanks for any info you can provide

You can go on harleys site,http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/Owners/service_checkup.jsp?locale=en_US&bmLocale=en_US  and put vin number in and it will tell you.

Yeah I did that but it didn't say anything about the recall for my bike, so I'm not sure if that means mine is not o e of the affected ones or the work was performed so I don't need it.

Thanks

Hello it's called product program 0905 and was available to the owners of 2007 FLHTCUSE2 and 2008 FLHTCUSE3 model motorcycles built before April 9,2008. Upgrades will include improved top end gaskets, center crankcase bolt, ACR, and cylinder heads with the new valve guides. It goes on to say that the program will expire 2 years from the program announcement of August 14,2008. So August 14, 2010 is the end of it. Hope that helps.

It wasn't a recall.  It was called a "product enhancement".  Here are the documents...

bummer if it was not done

the conventional wisdom is that the durability fixes for those early engines include - true & weld the crank, replace the heads [valve guides are the issue], replace the cylinders with axtell or other known good cyls, put a 30 or 31 tooth trans sprocket on because the 07's are SERIOUSLY too tall geared and install a ids and a se compensator. those items are just to fix varioius mechanical issues.  after that its all performance and heat issues.

ALL 2007 model year 110's were involved.  The best way to determine if your bike was "enhanced" is to either have a dealer put your VIN into the computer, or call H-D Customer Service with your VIN and ask them to check.

Even though the program supposedly expired last fall, I would still call H-D and ask if they would perform the updates.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Thanks guys.  I'm planning on going to the dealer tomorrow to have them look it up.  I sure hope the original owner had it done
