Motolights (gloss black) FLHTCUSE5d ????
« on: January 18, 2011, 01:35:18 PM »

Hi,

I hate riding at night becasue it's never bright enough.  So I'm thinking of buying these but I would like to see some pictures if anyone has mounted the gloss black motolights on a FLHTSE5d (2010 Crimson Mist, black forks) $420.00 is a lot to spend if its something you don't need and end up not liking too?

They don't add that much light for night time use.
They do make you very visible for daytime use.

Wouldn't be without them!

My experience has been that the 50W Motolights add significantly more nighttime lighting than the passing lamps.  Easy to check by simply switching the passing lamps on/off.  Also, depending on how they're aimed, they reach nearly as far as the OEM hi beam, and do so without resulting in flashing head lights from oncoming autos.

As good as the nighttime light is, the day time is even better because of the light pattern.

I felt the same way until I went to the 50 watt -- for me, I'm very happy with the degree of extra light at night. But nothing beats the PIAA 510 Extreme White -- I had those on the engine guards of 2 FLTR - wow. DOOFUS

Chrome Motolights on my 2010 Crimson Mist - did not care for the gloss black - to each their own.  At some point, when this bike is traded, figured the chrome set would be more "universal" when swapped out on another bike (s).

They add lots of daytime viz.  At night, depending on how you aim them, they can aid in cornering (slower cornering speeds more noticeable viz than faster).  Better than stock passing lamps.  Easy to spot the bikes with Motolights when in front of a group at night, also.

Searched other options & found nothing else I liked as well as Motolights.

HID headlight.....it outshines distance and brightness on both regular and bright.  And, even though it shines further and brighter and wider pattern than stock, when on low beam, you don't have anybody flashing their lights at you.

It's pricey also (true HID) but well worth it if you're having problems with night time vision. :2vrolijk_21:  It's a clean, white light much like that of a Mercedes or BMW rather than that yellowish stock light.

Jeez. I must have gotten a lemon off the shelf. My HID on the FLHTK was c-r-a-p.  Looked like broken glass and was out shined by an FLHTK with just upgraded PIAA bulbs.  But, maybe I got a lemon.  Glad urs is cool stuff. DOFUS
