Hey Twolaner,
you remember correctly - Mules Days in Columbia is a good day to keep the bikes out of town, if you don't want to have smelling washes later ;-)

Bike is running great and seems to have had all the problems resolved.  Yeah!

I'm starting to think that the MoCo does have some questions to the reliability of their own engines.

I was at my Local Dealer's 40th anniversary party yesterday, and I was walking through the showroom and I noticed some "Signature Series" signs on certain bikes.  What they are are bikes that the stealer has upgraded to the 95" engines.  I asked about the pricing on a Road King with this upgrade, and also if they could do it with the 103" engines.

The dealer said that they do not reccomend doing it with the 103", because the Factory will NOT HONOR ANY WARRANTY on the engines if they use the 103".  However, with the 95" kit, the Factory Warranty is fully honored.

I may be wrong, but I'm going to guess here that the Dealer was referring to bumping an 88 to a 103 as opposed to buying a factory built 103. Big difference in the entire process and the dealer's comment would make sense in that respect. Most of the guys I know that buy the UC's instead of a CVO bump them to 95 and get full coverage.Obviously everyone on this site with a CVO 103 knows there's no issue with regard to purchasing an ESP. I said purchasing not collecting on it. I know some of you have had your share of problems with some dealers acting as though it were their money on the line in honoring the warranty. In any event, back to this previous post,  I think it's important in any discussion to know where each side is starting from. . I am big fan of the stock CVO 103 with the exception of the EPA things the MoCo has no choice but to comply with. Stage 1 breather and any decent exhaust system and these motors will haul you and yours all over this great country of ours. I've clocked nearly 37,000 miles on 103 engines between the two 03 SERKS I've owned and my only complaint is the damn cam chain tensioners. I would really like to know why the MoCo did not utilize the gear driven set-ups available through the aftermarket. Seems like they'd be cheaper to produce and from all reports, far superior on the maintenance side. IMO  ;)

Fastboy,

33,000 miles since November! :o That's some serious time in the saddle. Ya'll need to check out the Gathering in Maggie Valley in October. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Hopefully you got your problem fixed with the top end rebuild. [smiley=nixweiss.gif] Time will tell, and in your case that will be in a few weeks! ;D

By the way, a warm welcome to this wonderful site from another born again heathen in Tennessee! [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=banana.gif]

Strange there still are dealers that don't get it or don't understand the information in the catalogs for the big bore and 103" kits for EFI models at least:
" ECM Recalibration is required for proper installation, and will allow engine to rev to 6200 RPM. See dealer for details. Labor cost not included. When installed by an authorized Harley-Davidson Dealer, these kits to not impact the vehicle's limited warranty."

If the locals won't warranty their own products and labor, I'd call MOCO and ask for clarification and get the District Mgr. involved, etc.
