Clear plastic headlight cover removal tips
« on: March 13, 2011, 06:03:11 PM »

Does the outer fairing have to be removed to take the clear plastic lens off?  Just want to clean inside of it, and was hoping not to have to take outer fairing off again

Doesn't have to, but it lessens the chance of a screw up.  Be careful and you can insert a small screwdriver between the fairing and where the clip is (about 1.5 inches from the end). With a slow twist the clip will pop loose. Then move to the other side. You may want to start with the bottom clips first, then the top ones just slide out.  Good luck and remember to pray when doing it.

I suggest something other than a metal device (screwdriver).  If you must do it without removing the fairing, try something wood or plastic that will lessen your chances of doing permanent damage to your clearcoat/paint surrounding the clear cover.

FWIW - I always remove the outer fairing if I need to work on the light.

Try everything before you take off that fairing!

The lens is not hard to remove just take your time.
All I have to do is ride down my road at 20 mph and it comes off by itself. :oops

No need to take the faring off to remove the bubble,  Just two tabs on the top and two on the bottom.  Gently pry the top edge down and out and it will pop right off. :2vrolijk_21:

I replaced mine with the headlight bezzle cover from the 09 SERG  :2vrolijk_21:

already got some good advise here. i'd use plastic or wood also. if you do take the fairing off you can get to the tabs from the inside and you'll have a better understanding for future removal.

good luck
