Sprucing up my FXR3, info needed
« on: February 18, 2011, 03:04:12 AM »

Now that I have my FXR3, I still need to get the parts and service manuals ordered. Not sure if these parts are still available, and if not, I need to rechrome a few.

I need to replace/rechrome:
1) exhaust heat shields
2) one handlebar riser
3) top transmission cover
4) front turn signal housings

Does anyone know where I can take these to have them done in the Northwest, if I can't buy new?
Also, I'd like to get a set of slip ons for it. Or, I could use some info on new exhaust, and whose making them for these bikes.

Thanks for any help, Jon

Nice score on the Blue!  Regarding exhaust; don't know how you feel about a 2 into 1 setup, but Supertrapp has a great product.  There is a member on this site "Classic Rider", who just fabricated a bracket to mount a Dyna and Softail style 2 into 1 Supertrapp for FXRs.  Now there are two options for FXRs when it comes to 2 into 1 Supertrapp.  Check out his thread. He knows his sh*t.  If your not into 2 into 1, then I've heard Cycle Shack puts out a great inexpensive exhaust.

I need to replace/rechrome:
1) exhaust heat shields
responded to the heat shields in your other post
2) one handlebar riser
3) top transmission cover
4) front turn signal housings

The rest of these items can be found via your FXR3 Parts Book once you get one.

I always ran Supertrapp duals on my FXR's. Did they stop making em ?
The 2 into 1 is a real beeaaaccchh of a brkt buster no matter what you do.
Your best bet is to use an old FXRP muffler brkt with the rubber isolator if you can find one.

I am a bit confused on the comments about the SuperTrapp 2-1 Supermeg fitment for the FXR as the bracket below shows what I put together that makes the Supertrapp 2-1 viable again for the FXR:

No aspersions cast on you man. The brkt in the pics looks like a winner for sure. It's got several places where it can move as well as rubber washers to isolate vibration. I was commenting on the issues I had had with the SuperTrapp 2 into 1 back in the day. I wasn't aware anyone had been making new parts for FXR's. Also, and this is just me, but I think the FXR looks so much better with the single side dual set-up and as I said, SuperTrapp alwasy made a nice dual exhaust for the FXR. Lots ofr tuneablility there and as I recall, I used to put the open end cap on both pipes and I think something like 12 discs each. I know I always had to buy extra discs.
