Remove Tour Pak
« on: February 10, 2007, 02:19:00 PM »

What I love about this group is not only the humor but the great advice and suggestions. I have a 2007 CUSE2 and would like to be able to make the Tour Pak detachable. I know some of you all have done it on the 2006 and some on the 2007. I am looking for what your dealer charged you and I want to be able to have the CB and all functionality when the Pak is off as when it is on less the back speakers.

Please let me know.
Thanks
Dave

Dave,

I haven't seen one removed with the CB intact. You lose the metal plate in the TP which plays a part in the CB transmission by being the ground plane, like the roof of a truck. There is also a load coil in the back corner of the TP that would have to be used also. Doing a relo on the AM/FM is no problem, but the CB would be more difficult.

Good luck, and if you figure it out, please post your solution.

As for the associated cost of removing the TP on my 07, I did it myself.

Like most everyone else, I did mine myself too. I spent the better part of a day at it so I'm sure a tech at the H-D shop would log 6 to 8 hours as well (they take more breaks than I do). As far as the CB, I chose not to use it but I can't see why an antenna couldn't be mounted near the rear using he H-D antenna relocation kit. Shoot, truckers attach their antenna's to mirror supports or most anything else on the outside of the rig. They sure don't wory about a grounded plane.  Shouldn't be a big deal. I've thought about a clip-on mobile antenna that could be clipped onto the handlebars when you wanted to use the CB - like in emergencies or during a ralley.

Thanks guys, What I am worried about is the '07 has the auto lock and the rear speakers connections. I know what you mean about their breaks during the day.

I will let you know what I get back from my dealer on cost and then I will be doing it myself like you guys. Ha!

Thanks :2vrolijk_21:

Hey guys... I just picked up my 2006 Ultra SE.  I would love to be able to do a detachable tour pack like I had the dealer install on my 2001 electra glide classic... How the hell do you do it?? what parts will I need?? I dont care about not being able to use the cb but my radio must work with the front speakers.  Please let me know thats my next mod.

Thanks!!

Hey Mike, nice bike...congrats.

There are a few differant ways you can do it. You may want to try the search engine on this site or I am sure a moderator will shoot you a thread as this is an ever popular question.

I bought the quick detach tour pack rack and applicable docking hardware and a layback plate. This part is very straight forward.
The tricky part is cleaning up the wire harness that you no longer need. Some guys on this site are mounting the amp in the saddle bag. I haven't seen this done, but I would only assume it means drill holes in the saddlebag and loose some storage. :(
I went with the Hawg-Wired Amp that you mount in the fairing. It hooks in nicely and increases your output. :) There are differant packages you can go with and I'm sure if you shot hd-dude a PM, he would get you on track as he is a dealer. I also put a digital antenna in the fairing to avoid any masts.

I guess it depends on how handy you are if you can do this yourself. The fuel tank needs to come off to get ride of the amp harness. The remaining harness that ties in with the main harness will curl up and tuck in the side covers and in front of the battery box.
Lots of guys on this site, including myself would be happy the answer questions and guide you through it if you decide to take on the job yourself.

I hope this helps

Michael, check this thread     http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php/topic,10721.0.html

I took some pictures of my bike during the process of removing my tour pack. This might give you and idea if you want to tackle the job yourself.
