Luggage rack
« on: March 16, 2011, 12:07:42 PM »

Thinking of getting the wife a Air Wing Two-Up Luggage Rack for her CVO Conv.

Question, are these big enough to sit a FF helmet on and strap around with a bungy cord?  Just thinking of a place for her to put her helmet when off the bike.

thanks,

I'm not familiar with that luggage rack.  The surface seems just a bit smaller than the older model of luggage rack, so for functional use, I went with the older model.

However, rather than a bungee cord, I'd suggest one of those small cargo nets......they're so much more versatile.  But don't buy it at a Harley Dealership......you can get it much cheaper at a Honda, Kawasaki or Susuki dealerships, Cycle Gear or some other such store. :2vrolijk_21:

I would go try it on at the dealership and look at it first...I originally wanted to get one of these for my '11 FLHXSE2, but when I went to the dealership to try it on for size I thought it was too big. It is heavy and well constructed but it's a honker. I opted for the Stealth luggage rack instead. It will definitely hold a FF helmet, but again I would suggest that you eyeball it first.

Thanks for the help.

The other thing I like the airwing is the 3rd break light it can act like.  2 small lights on the FLSTSE2, would like to increase lights on the rear.

I will mention to her next time we are at the dealer to see if they have one in stock.

I have a 2011 SESG. I have the Airwing detachable 2 up luggage rack. I added the optional brake light in. I think it is great. It is a bit large but I have became used to it. We were in Daytona for Bike week and it worked great for a helment storage spot. The optional light is also a running light plus a brake light. My wife likes it and if it makes Mama happy, then I am happy. I got the chrome one by the way. You can always take it off if you want the cleaner look. That is what I do. If we go for a long ride, I put it on in case I need to haul something. Hope this helps some.

Plenty big enough for a helmet. Also have the light installed...like you wanted lots of light on the rear. Looks good, acts as brake light too. Recommend it. Only thing I don't like about the wing rack is that it doesn't accommodate several bags I have like the old rack does. It's a little narrow at the back end side which doesn't allow the bag to sit down in to the rack. Had to buy another bag for a trip out west.
