Cleaning the heavy Breather filter.
« on: July 26, 2011, 10:53:50 AM »

 :nixweiss:

I installed the HD Heavy Breather kit on my 2010 SESG. Somehow I managed to lose the install and maintenance instruction sheets. Doe any have a set? I need to know how to clean the filter. If it were a K&N filter I would know but I seem to remeber this thing is different.
Thanks. And have a great time in Sturgis if you are going.

The HD filter is paper unlike the K&N, which is cotton.  You should clean it the same way described here:

Best Way to Clean The SE Ventilator Filter Element

I have cleaned mine several times and it works fine.

Does this apply to the filter for the Heavy Breather or just the SE Ventilator?

Both.  My point was they are the same construction.

Use Dawn as described and the same technique as shown.  Good luck!

I'm confused.  When did the K&N oiled filter get changed to a paper filter?  The instructions for the Heavy Breather Kit, which is available as a pdf on the Harley accessory site, specifically says its a K&N and they recommend K&N filter cleaner and K&N filter oil on the filter.  Click on the following link:
