Ultra Radio Removal
« on: April 01, 2011, 11:54:20 PM »

I have a 2010 cvo ultra. I am trying to remove the radio from my bike and having trouble sliding it out the front. I disconnected all the connectors and removed the 2 bracket bolts from each side. It slides out until you can see the rubber seal then stops. There doesn't seem to be enough clearance. The raised bracket on the front of the radio which the xm and cb modules mount into seems to be the problem but it is part of the top radio cover. Can anyone who has removed their radio tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks for your help

It needs to pull out from the back of the radio. Don't try to pull the entire radio through the fairing. You may need to remove the fairing bracket bolts from the inner fairing on one side if it doesn't want to come out.

Definitely not thru the fairing.  Remove the front fairing and the bolts that hold it in the bracket.

Don't believe any of these guys about sliding the radio out the back. You need to remove the handlebars, remove the switchhousing and the tank. Then try pounding the radio out the front with a large rubber mallet. If that doesn't work then use a jigsaw to cut a larger hole around the radio in the inner fairing. Cutting a larger hole will make it very easy to remove the radio out of the front. Then use colored duct tape to cover the hole around the radio once you put it back in. lol

Just kidding!! You already have the front fairing off, and you have disconnected the wiring. So remove the 4 side bolts that secure it and gently pull it back. It can be helpful to take a few photos of the wiring before you unhook and remove anything. This makes it easier when you're reinstalling.
;D ;D ;)

LOL..........thats to funny..........made my day :2vrolijk_21:

I hope this is not to late to be helpful, but some of the info you have received is a little off. A battery powered Sawzall will be much faster, just be careful not to nick any wires. In hot weather the tape will fall off and you will have bare wire again.
