Mr. Screem; two or three months ago I was curious about the same thing.  Somewhere here on Neal's vast wildersite I asked what if any concensus there was on aftermarket starters.  Couldn't quickly find the thread right now to forward to you.  But the quick concensus of opinion then was nothing aftermarket held up nearly as well as the OE starters.

Just found it.  Noticed had typed "strater" in the search field looking for the old thread the first time.  Ooops....

Yep, stick with the OEM starters. The only weak link in them is the clutch, especially in the 07+ units. If they go out replace the clutch with the MES unit. Lifetime guaranty on them.....

Yes the Harley starters work well as do their batterys. I think I tried 3-4 different starters as well as batterys on my chopper before I got a combo that worked. Both HD pieces!
