Exhaust pipes
« on: August 24, 2010, 08:59:32 PM »

I was looking for idea on what kind of exhaust to put on my bike. I don't have access to a Dino because we don't have one in Hawaii. I have a 2010 street glide FLHXSE. I'm looking for any idea I can get. It's time to make some noise so people now I'm coming. I just wanted to thank everyone for the help.

Hey there- welcome to the forum- must be nice to live in Hawaii  :divers009:

Probably the most discussed topic on any bike forum is exhaust- there are a ton of choices, and it seems each forum has their group favourite- you can chose from Rinehart, Fullsac, Jackpot, Rush, Bassani, Vance and Hines, etc, etc. Other choices if you want a 2-1 system, or true duals. Best to do some searches on here, and check out some You Tube clips.

I, and tons on this site, have the Fullsac set up- their x pipe, and 2.25" baffles in stock cans. They make good and affordable products, and give great service and support. Just switching out baffles is a good option, since you save a bunch of $$ over buying new mufflers, especially since there is nothing wrong with the look and size of the stock cans.

Sounds like you want sound (lol)? Probably the loudest is Rinehart- their new 4" mufflers are supposed to have a nice loud but deep sound. But, like I said, search around and listen to some bikes at a local bike night to find whats best for you.

Cycle City does have a Dyno.

you can also call Cycle sports in Iwilei or Revtek in Waipio.

This is my opinion, so it and about $4 will get you a cup of coffee these days...

By far, the easiest and most simple solution is to go with the Fullsac option.  Get the X pipe, it fits like a glove, uses all the stock heat shields without issue, and is easy to install.  The Fullsac cores for the stock mufflers come in three sizes...1.75", 2", and 2.25".  The 2" cores supposedly give the most power/TQ.  They are also a good compromise between too loud and quiet.  I have the 2" on mine, and for me, they are plenty loud when you get on it, but not too loud at steady throttle.  The most difficult part of the installation is grinding the welds off the stock cores to remove them for the installation of the Fullsac cores, but if you have a Dremel tool  with the right bit, and take your time, you can get it done without damaging the stock cans.  Leave the packing in the stock can, slip the Fullsac core in, bolt it down, and your done with that part.  Get the Mastertune TTS and cables (through Fullsac, or you can get all this stuff through hd-dude(Jim) on this site, at a discount)...if you have a laptop, or access to one, install the software, do the updates, use the MAP that has already been done by Fullsac for your bike, upload the original program from the ECM as a backup, download the new MAP to the ECM, then go riding.  Yes, you could take it to a Dyno and have it tuned to get the n'th degree of HP/TQ, but it won't be a significant amount, if any.  My bike runs perfectly well with the canned MAP, so I'll save the $400 bucks or so that it takes for a full blown Dyno tune...I can live without 2 foot pounds of TQ, if it's even there to be had.

Call Jim (hd-dude) at Metal Dragon 510-885-9471, or shoot him a PM here on the site. Or, look under the Vendor section and call Steve at Fullsac and get it through them.  I just ordered through Jim because I know him, he's a great guy, ver helpful, and will take care of you.  I've heard the same about Steve, but I'm loyal to those who have treated me right in the past, and Jim has always done so.

Check out D&D 2-1 FatCats. A little loud but nice. Nice increase of power and performance too. If you like the look of duels, they have a ghost pipe for the other side. Also check out the ThunderMax Autotuner. No dyno required. You order it with a map preloaded for your bike and exhaust. If you make mods late it self adjusts. It also self adjusts as you ride for altitude, temperature and humidity. It replaces the stock ECM, which can be reinstalled if you have any warranty problems.

I put Bub 7 TDX on when brand new, quiet at idle and while cruising  but you can definately hear when you get on it, like I said A little quiet at first but as I approach 10 K seem to be a little louder, Just went to a power commander and that seems to have made it louder but can't say for sure as haven't had much time to ride yet, also don't really know if that would affect it but just seems louder. I could be wrong on that but were going to the Grand canyon next week so I will see then.
At times I wish it was a little louder but seems to be alright.  :mango:

Anyone have any thoughts on different slip ons for the BuB 7 TDX, or is there baffels I can change, thinking I might want a little more sound at idle?
