Rear speaker pod kit not compatible with FLHXSE2?
« on: May 01, 2011, 09:48:13 AM »

I've seen several post/picks with the king tour pack.

But according to the HD accessories site the Boom!™ Audio Rear Speaker Pod Kit (76000021) does not fit '11 FLHXSE2 models.

Any idea on this limitation?   Thanks in advance.

I'm sure it says that because there are no rear speaker wires. They will fit the KTP you'll just have to deal with wiring it up.

Sorry, but I don't think that's the reason.

Here's the description:

Fits '06-later Touring models equipped with an Advanced Audio Radio and a rigid mount King Tour-Pak® luggage system. Requires installation of Wiring Harness P/N 70169-06. Does not fit '11 FLHXSE2 models.

If that is the case, any good stereo shop that does installation should be able to hook you up.

I'm just taking a swag here, but I would guess it's both a capacity issue, and a wiring harness issue.  From a capacity issue, the outputs from the radio/amp that would normally be for the tour pack speakers on a ultra, are being directed to the speakers in the lowers, and the wiring harness is probably re-routed to handle the wires going to the lowers instead of the seat area.

I ended up purchasing a used tour pak from an ultra that the HD dealer had in order to get the speakers to fit.  Which they gave me a very good deal on but then I had to have the paint color matched versus from the factory.

I was thinking that the factory tour paks for the street glides aren't as tall? Maybe that was a stupid question/thought but since I wanted to have the light bar and speaker pods added to mine I didn't ask any more questions; the ultra tour pak was the way to go.

I have been asking the same question out of curiosity.

I have the pods installed on my SESG2 with full control (no intercom kit yet). Track up/down works, and headset intercomm will work if I ever decide to add it.
All that is needed is the NUOH.

Of course, getting the NUOH installed on an SESG2 can be challenging. You'll need to de-pin the ipod connection that came stock on the bike from J28 (35 pin) and re-pin it into the NUOH. At that point some things will work (XM and rear pods) but you need to do quite a bit more work if you want to add CB or intercomm.

All it amounts to is wiring ... but it can get pretty involved depending on what accessories you want to add. The biggest problem is creating a standard 6B connnector (required to add intercom or CB). The SESG2 does not contain 2 required wires on the J27 (23 pin) harness so those will need to be added. One of these days I'll do a full how-to on what is required. Just got to find the time (it's not tremendous - but it is a tad involved).
