OKC - National western heritage museum (cowboy hall of fame), firefighters museum, cattleman's, Bombing memorial, the round barn in Arcadia. Prob can come up with more how far off 66 do you want to venture. Let us know we will buy lunch/dinner/breakfast.

I've rode several parts of Route 66 at different times.  Seems the most original (road, buildings, businesses, etc.) is between Flagstaff and Kingman, Az. but it's all interesting if you're into history and nastalgia.

I rode it too. Have to agree that the nicer part starts in Flagstaff via Seligman and Kingman and then the overwhelming experience to see the Pacific Ocean at the very end of the trip.
This trip should belong to everybodies bucket list!  :mango:

It's definitely on mine, but requires some planning as I'd want to do it on my own ride!
Tentatively agreed with with a friend to start planning for 2013!   :coolblue:

This should help:  The Mother Road.

"The Historic Route 66 web site is dedicated to provide free information for those who want to learn more about Route 66. It features a turn-by-turn road description, guiding the visitor from Chicago to Los Angeles. The forum is available for discussions regarding old 66 by the visitors of this site. There's a slide-show, with pictures from our trip down Route 66 in 1994. "

There is great stuff in Kingman, esp. the Rail Road Museum.

Did the ride 1 1/2 yrs ago as a 50th birthday present to myself. Went by myself so I could do it my way, after all, it was my birthday ride. LOL Took my time and did it in 9 days from Chicago to Santa Monica. In mt opinion, best part of the ride was New Mexico and Arizona. In New Mexico, when you get around Sante Fe, take a right(don't remember the roads) and go to Madrid. They filmed parts of Wild Hogs there. In Arizona, the most memorable places were Seligman and Oatman. Hope this helps. Damn, now I want to do the ride again!!!!!!!!!!!!

The short jaunt from Kingman Az. to Oatman Az. along route 66 is absolutely awesome! I was just there again for the Laughlin River Run. Enjoy your trip.
