More starter problems
« on: June 10, 2011, 03:56:06 PM »

I am on my third starter and making all kinds of bad noises.

Looks like I am going to have SE compensator installed.

Hope that helps the "eating" starter situation.

Changed out the compensator and all that went away, starts like a normal bike shifts great and neutral is a snap.  It also solved my hard start, starter kicking out wearing out problem and the big clunk when it starts.  You won't be sorry !!

Had the chrome high torque started installed day one on my 09 SERG. I thought the started was going out so I returned to the dealership and they installed the same thing and WOW all solved and starts silky smooth. Still a little slower when engine is hot on restarts but nothing like before. All is well!!

The compensator will fix your problem as it did on mine after replacing starters and a clutch and several bearings.

I had the same problems with my 09 SERG, dealer changed everything except the compensator....ACR'S, selenoids, starters...."the compensator was the chit!" Since the change I have had absolutely no problems, I did a research of starter problems on this site and found most were compensator related, abeit alot of members like myself went through all the agony with the delearships not really being able or willing to properly diagnose the problem in the first place!

My saga continues for the worse....

noise was coming from piston slap in the jugs.

Dealer pulled them and found jugs warped due to excessive heat.

need new pistons and jugs.

This bike is wearing me out, 2 engine failures major in 20K.

This has been about a week that I have known and just getting to the point I can talk about it.

A new SE comp is going into mine July 9, my 09 SERG is just starting to have the tell tale signs of the stock comp failing (hard starting clunk, etc) at 12000 miles. I'm doing the upgrade through a dealer as I'm having all the fluids changed anyway so in it goes! Looking forward to the better starts.
