Does anyone know if stock CVO amplifier has its own fuse?
« on: May 12, 2011, 10:15:06 AM »

Hi,

I need help.  Having problems with my IPOD interface install.  I have a 2010 SE Ultra where the stock HD amplifier is located under the tourpack.  After installing the IPOD interface, I lost my volume for all radio, cd, IPOD, XM.  I have Hawg Wired speakers that sounded great at highway speeds, now I can't hear music at highway speeds.  I THINK the music is running off the stock radio amps and the HD amplifier has lost power?  I have volume, but not very much.

What i am trying to find out before I tear everything apart again is:  does the amplifier run on a separate fuse, and if so, where is it located?  Or, could I have dislodged a pin in the main harness that is causing the problem?  Obviously, I hope its a fuse where all I have to do is take the side cover off or something?

Not to sure of the fuse location, but if the amp is not powered you would get no audio. There is no bypass if the amp is not active.

Have you tried the HK self-diagnostic feature?  It may identify the problem:

Yes, there is a separate 30a fuse for the amp in the fuse pancel behind the left side plate. Should be in the upper left corner.

However, I'd suspect you've got the wiring on the Ipod interface messed up. If the issue arose right after the install, I'd reverse the install and check the radio. If it works again, then review some other posts herein that discussed instruction problems with that harness.

Definately getting sound, just not the volume that I had before.  That's why I was thinking the amp failure.  Trying to start with the easiest fix before dealing with taking the fairing off again.  I will check the fuse as starters, maybe run the radio diagnostics, and if those fail to show anything, I will start from scratch and pull everything apart.  I was hoping for an easy fix.  I am pretty sure we got the install right, everything works except for volume or power for volume?  Maybe we loosened a pin along the way.  I guess the question then would be is there a specific pin in the main harness that would be for the amp?

Ruling out the amp is easy. If it's the fuse or the amp, you will get zero sound.  That's doesn't sound to be the case, so you might want to swap out a different ipod just for grins. If your'e seeing the same thing, then it's definitely the interface or wiring.

i have been told differently.  i was told that the radio will operate and produce sound if the amplifier is not working?  the radio is capable of producing 40 watts total power and the amp boosts that power? i was hoping someone had a similar issue.  i am out of town but i plan on checking the amp for power via the fuse, maybe a power light or it should at least get warm with power.  if that dont work, fairing comes off and we start from scratch?
