My opinion is of little use, I have little use for "Bar" hoppers any longer.

Motorcycles are bad enough investments, without the addition of a "Bigdog"

Neighbors have 3. I have been very impressed with the construction quality and attention to detail. They bought their 3rd after it was announced Big Dog was closing.

I think a K9 is just not a bar hopper , and it is soooo cooooool looking and when you believe the owners then you can ride it and handle it very good . Hmmmmm .?.?
Still thinking about getting one .

I've only known three people that's had them.  They all got rid of them because they were always having problems with them.

They loose their value quicker than Harleys.  And yes, they're a bar hopper.....don't think you're going to do a two week tour on one of those nor an 800 mile day.  Bar hopper is generally used for one of those "look cool" bikes that would be very uncomfortable to ride very far, but look cool parked in front of the local hang out.

IMO these are 'Fernando' bikes.  Remeber Billy Crystal's character Fernando on SNL several years ago.  In addition to his famous line 'you look marvelous' he was famous for saying 'it is more important to look good than to feel good.'  Hence this is a Fernando bike - you may look good but you will not feel good after riding it for very long.

I would like to own a K9.  I toured the factory in Wichita a couple years back and thought it was way cool.
I don't think you are going to find the crowd here that would take off on a major trip on a K9 but I know those who have.
Old friend rode with a guy from VA to Sturgis and back on a K9.
My lazy old broken down butt that is used to the CVO Ultra and is probably not interested in that kind of a trip on a K9, but it is cool.
I test rode one 4 years ago and was impressed but did not want to part with that much cash.  Now if they get real cheap I may need to have one for my wife.  :pepper:

For sure my Roadglide will stay in my garage ( for the first time ) but for the "Fernando" trips a K9 would do a great job i guess , and it is not a Ridgeback (without damping) , but it looks so -  ;D

My neighbor 2 doors down has a Mastiff. It's pretty... has the 117" motor on it.

It's a 50 mile bike. After that you need a break. On my seat-of-the-pants dyno I would guesstimate 90-95 horses maybe, but the bike is pretty light. With the big wide rear tire, it looks to me like if you lean it over in a turn the swing-arm would hit the ground first. Steers like a dump truck.

It's not made to do anything but profile/pose. You could tour on it... but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. The bike makes a lot of compromises toward a fat rear tire and long/low profile, which does nothing for it's ability to be a good motorcycle.

My buddy Tony has one and loves it. He traded a 2004 road Kind straight up for it in 2008. He has had one mechanical problem with it....tachometer....replaced under warranty in Daytona this year.

The chrome is like Harley's....pitting....so he is taking it off one piece at a time and powdercoating it.

Tony is a big boy and this bike fits him much better than a Harley. We have done many 500-800 mile days.

This is a pic without his bag that goes on the sissy bar on the way to the Keys

I've owned 3 Big Dogs, starting back in 99!! They were a great company to deal with. IMHO they built THE best v-twin production on the planet. When I saw the 2011 SESG I had to have one. Unfortunately I needed to trade both my 07 Road King and my 06 Big Dog Mastiff to obtain it.
So I say go for it! I would still own mine as a second bike if I could.

I have never ridden one but love the look.  From what I can see in the market they like most choppers are a fast depreciating toy.
