I am betting the owner had it financed and since it had 141 miles on it they pay it off and he or she starts over with a new one. Sure seems like thats the way it oughta be. Orrrrrrrrrrrr      maybe I smell  laaaaaaaaawyer!@!!!!!!!

And as in my case, if the owner wants to retain the bike or purchase it back if it's 'totalled', is that possible or like you say a special buyer gets 'dibs' on it from the Insurance Co?  In other words, do I have to 'fight' to retain or regain my damaged scooter if it's totalled?  spyder

Yes you do, but you still have to pay the price to "owner retain".
