Here is the picture of my new '11 SESG seat that I received under warranty replacement. The MOCO authorized an '09 SERG replacement seat and I had already had two of them so I didn't want another ill fitting seat to just have to complain about.
At the dealership they told me the '09 SERG seat was almost $100 more than the '11 SESG seat. I had already tried a '10 SESG seat and it fit well, but I had heard issues with them as well. I sat on a showroom '11 SESG and it fit me very well and seemed to have a great fit on the tank/console area.
I asked my service manager if he would order me the '11 seat instead of the original '09 seat and said no problem. He returns my '09 seat for warranty and he pays less for the '11 seat that I love on my bike. This was a Win Win for me and them.
When out of warranty, it may be a bit more of an issue though.
When a new seat is put on with the same issue as the replacement was approved to correct, the problem is NOT solved! The MOCO had committed to fix your problem and it's not fixed, order again, but this time do the later seat.
Yes, I could have purchased a new seat like everyone else has done, but why if the '11 seat fits me and the MOCO should make the bike right, period.
When I talked to the tier 2 service person at the MOCO, she said that they would get me another '09 seat. I asked her if I could have them do the '11 seat and she said no. I suggested that if there were a difference in pricing between the two, I would pay the difference. I actually thought the new seat would be more. She said that would be between me and my dealer. So I read between the lines and found out that the seat was less and the service manager jumped at my proposal.
Don't let the seat issue drop until you're happy.
Good luck everyone with the seat replacement issues.
