Oil Line Question
« on: June 26, 2011, 08:15:05 AM »

My engine has a chrome oil line running from the engine case (just below the rear lifter block) to the oil filler neck. The last couple of inches of the line is rubber. I spent this past week along the NC/SC coast and saw a couple other baggers with 103 motors and they didn't have this line. None were CVOs. What's the purpose of this line and why doesn't all the TC motors have it? Is it unique to the CVO 103?

Does HD make a oil temp guage to replace the air temp one on the CVO's? I know they have a black faced gauge but do they have one to match the CVO gauges?

They do offer a temp gauge kit to match the spun aluminum gauges.   .   75320-05A.    It's shows in the P/A catalogue.  $139.95.

That hose, routed that way was used from 2002-2006 on all Big Twins. HD offered a retrofit kit for the 99-01 models
The chrome variety is said to be somewhat restrictive.

The line with the rubber connection on the end is the factory installed piece.  Harley also offers a part in the accessory catalog that is the solid line you saw on the other bikes.  It is not a stock part but something they bought over the counter and installed to gain more chrome.  It's part number 33111-02 and is for the 02-06 bikes.

You can use it on the 99-01 bikes also.  But to do that you have to change the oil fill spout to one that has the fitting to accept the line and plug the original vent line hole elsewhere in the tranny case.
